This website was born out of the 2005 Crayke Parish Plan, in which a substantial number of residents who completed the questionnaire indicated that they thought that a village website would be useful. The Crayke-based business York Multimedia stepped forwards to offer to build the website for the village, and it was agreed that a local group would be set up to plan and manage the project, working with the designers and developers at York Multimedia. It was also agreed that the group would at the same time explore other village communications issues, including a village guide to be distributed to existing and new residents. The way forwards was set out as follows: 1. A communications working group is set up to develop the communications issues which arise from the parish plan questionnaire.
2. The group should be broadly representative of the various interests in the village, including church, school, parish council, business, community, etc
3. The group should explore two main questions initially - namely: 3.1 What do people want to know about? (eg events, businesses, contact details) 3.2 In what format do they want to be able to obtain this information? (eg website, newsletter, notice board etc)
The group should use the findings from the Parish Plan questionnaire as a starting point, and undertake further consultations as required.
4. The group will then make recommendations arising. These recommendations are likely to include the development of a website, the production of a village guide/welcome pack, a review of village newsletters, a review of village noticeboards, and other matters.
5. The group will work towards a set of policies and guidelines which will govern the development of projects which arise - to include topics such as: 5.1 Commercial considerations - to ensure no individual business benefits unduly, and an acceptable advertising policy 5.2 Security considerations - technical precautions to prevent unauthorised publishing 5.3 Content policy - to ensure no undesirable content is published 5.4 Funding consideration - to ensure projects can be self-funded or sponsored by business/grants 5.5 Information maintenance - to ensure content is kept up to date 5.6 Inclusivity considerations - to ensure no individuals or groups are excluded from accessing any of the content
The group will invite the parish council and other bodies to comment on these guidelines, and will modify as it sees appropriate.
6. The group will develop the projects in line with the research and guidelines
7. The group will solicit feedback, and will review and modify the projects on an ongoing basis.
